Specks And Logs
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? (Matthew 7:3 ESV)
How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye (Matthew 7:4 – 7:5 ESV)
It is very easy to see specks or faults in other people yet ignore abominations and serious flaws in our own lives. Log is much bigger than speck. Typically, most humans expect perfection from others. They look at the world through the lens of black and white. If you are not as perfect as they want you to be, you become evil and unlovable but the truth is that no human can be perfect.
The sooner we start loving flawed and very flawed human beings the better for us. We are expected to love everyone like God who makes His light shine on the good and bad without discrimination. Anyone can love a very good and kind person who constantly sacrifices for them and is good to them. The challenge has always been the ability to love the unkind, evil and no so good.
Humans typically focus on all the unlovable and bad traits in others and simply refuse to love them, however, they love their own immediate families, defend them, and make excuses for them regardless of how bad they are. That is to show you that man is inherently selfish by nature. The problem is not love but selfishness. Most humans only love themselves and their own. That is why the worst dictator, murderer, and criminal loves his family but goes around harming others.
Love will always be a challenge if we do not learn to overlook other people’s flaws and begin to look inwards. We must start with “ the man in the mirror staring back at us.”
It is better for us to start removing the log in our eyes so that we will be better at love. When we remove those logs, we can then see clearly and appreciate the man next door.
Amen!! Reblogging for all my peeps. 🙂
Thanks a lot for the response and reblog. Blessings 🙏❤️❤️❤️
No problem 😌
I was just thinking about something like this today. Even when we are only suggesting something, not even place judgement, people tend to be offended and want to through the blame on someone else.
It is also better to distribute love. This reminds me of the scripture of where it says to continue to do right to people who do you wrong and it will heap Hot coals on their head. People think this means when someone does you wrong to sadistically keep doing good because it makes them even more mad. This is not what it means it means when someone does you wrong continue to do right and it brings conviction upon them because they see you glorify your Father and it makes them see the error of their ways.
So very true!
Thank you so much for this very informative and insightful contribution. You are so correct, we should do right to those who do wrong to us because it brings conviction upon them and we are glorifying our father. May God help us to always love our enemies. Blessings 🙏❤️❤️❤️
That is very true, Laura. Thank you for sharing. Very thought provoking.
Thanks a lot for the inspiring and encouraging response. May God’s grace help us to always please Him. Blessings 🙏❤️
LOL – I’ve been shooting that arrow on FB at some people who are self-appointed twig removers but have not removed their logs. I also pointed out that Matt 7:21 is mistranslated in most bibles – it should read, “Condemn not, lest you be condemned, for with the same measure you condemn you will be condemned”. We’re told we will judge angels, as well Paul said judging was a required practice, but we’re to judge deeds, and fruit, without condemning those who err- yes corrective action is part of it, but do it out of love and mercy. Remember John 3:17 that YHVH didn’t send His Son into the world to condemn the world but rather out of His love and mercy, He did so to give all a chance to be restored to Him by repentance.
Thank you so much for the informative and insightful contribution. True, we are to correct out of love and never condemn people. Unfortunately, there are lots of judges nowadays and I have seen so many of them putting up videos of condemnation and judgement on Facebook. May God give us the grace to walk wisely and know the difference between judging and correcting deeds and false doctrines and condemning individuals. Blessings 🙏❤️
Blessings to you also. Family talked me into going back to Facebook a couple months ago. I’d quit after 6 months 2010. I’m surprised I haven’t been put in Facebook jail yet altho they msg me a story I’d posted was fake news per Snopes. I replied if Snopes says it’s fake I know it’s true. They dropped the matter
Amen. So, welcome back! Nowadays, I just go to my Facebook Page and post. So, they actually check the stories. It’s good that they sent a message to you because people can believe a story is true and post it, yet I might be false. Great that they dropped the matter. 😊
Very Good post..👍
This is so true, and so very hard at times. Good blog!
Yes, that’s quite true.
Amen! Wonderful message!
