- 13 When A Man’s Way Pleases the Lord
Worship is the heartbeat of God but not so many people realise this. Worship is about taking love to higher dimension. To worship God, we must elevate Him to a very high status beyond what ordinary mind is capable of doing. Worship is all inclusive of every variable or virtue mentioned in the Bible. Worship must also be expressed in personal and Church worship.
To worship God means to give Him totality of our being and this involves total focus, reverence and devotion. When we worship God in Spirit and in truth, God becomes very pleased and attached to us. Worship produces an invincible spiritual cord that links heaven to our hearts. The Holy Spirit is the link between heaven and earth.
God loves worship more than any other thing because that is the purpose for which He created man. God longs for worship and is delighted when we worship Him. The joy of heaven is about worship because heaven is ceaseless worship and absolute reverence. Worship in heaven flows naturally while worship on earth requires sacrifice, endurance and persistence. It is sometimes very difficult.
Here on earth, our emotions can get in the way of worship because sometimes we just don’t feel like worshipping God. However, we must worship God because worship is what pleases God. It is the heart beat of God. It causes God intense pleasure. Just as physical children can give pleasure to their parents, we also give God happiness and pleasures by our worship. Just as a wife can give her husband great happiness by her constant love and affection, we as brides of Christ and His beloved can give Christ happiness and pleasure.
We can please Him that is why the Bible advices us to find out what pleases the Lord. Jesus also pleased God by His ways and absolute devotion to God.
My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased!
I will put My Spirit upon Him. – Matthew 12:18
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him. – Matthew 17:5
And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him. – John 8:29
He who is unmarried cares for the things of the Lord—how he may please the Lord. But he who is married cares about the things of the world—how he may please his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:33
We must make it our aim to please God as perfect brides of Christ. That is the true worship that God desires.
Love is an emotion, an action and an expression. In our relationships with fellow humans, we know that love starts as an emotion or tender feeling which translates into action. Love makes us do things that make the object of our affection happy. We also know that we express that love to the one who is loved by us. We know that we must verbally express ‘I love you.’
So primarily, love starts as an emotion. Our love for God should start as an emotion which leads to obedience and expressions of love towards God. Man was born hostile to God because the environment of the earth is hostile and close to the land of death. It is death of mind and emotions that causes hatred. A dead stony heart can’t love.
The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,
and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.” – Matthew 4:16
As a result, all man can see is sorrow and death with little happiness scattered in hidden and forbidden places. This perplexity has led many to be hostile to God. Loving God is something that comes by grace and learning about God. We learn about God through the Bible. The word of God is the spiritual lens that gives us the true nature, idea, image and picture of God and causes the love of God to grow in us. By mediating on the word of God we see God as One who is worthy to be loved, adored and Worship. We see God as someone who has not abandoned His creation and can have a positive influence on the affairs of man.
Rejecting the word of God is what leads men’s minds into the captivity of forsaking God like atheists. It is natural to have doubts but when man lets doubt take over him and consume him he is treading on dangerous grounds because it is foolish for a created being to forsake his creator. Also, finding the way back can be a difficult narrow winding journey.
Man lives in a fallen world and humanity is a fallen race and a lost generation who have lost the way to God’s original design and purpose. Fortunately, Christ came and restored the world back to God and showed us the way back to God. Christ is the way and the bridge between heaven and earth.
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam. – Romans 5:14
I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. – John 14:30
Of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. – John 16:11
Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. – John 12:31
In Christ, believers became a chosen generation who should live like chosen people instead of lost people.
God must be chased and pursued and panting after God has to do with passion and desire. It can be passion for His presence or His blessings. Panting after God has to do with yearning and longing for His presence.
As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? – Psalm 42:1
It is right to pant after God because our hearts were created to long for Him. Our passion should be for His presence and deliverance. However, our primary passion should be longing to do His will and living in complete submission to his will and plan for our lives. Love must precede passion. Love has to do with giving and passion has to do with asking, prayer and desire.
The only way we can know His will is by constantly panting and longing for His word. If we place things in this order, we will never be disappointed. When we are in 100% submission to His will, we can say that we love the Lord. Loving Him has to do with having tender affection and devotion in our hearts for God instead of anger and bitterness towards Him. Tender love should lead us to live in His perfect will and express our love for Him in songs of praise, worship and thanksgiving.
Jesus said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and finish his work.” This food here means happiness, pleasure and passion. In pleasing God Jesus derived pleasure. Jesus was pleased and God was pleased. There was no mismatch or gap in the relationship that Jesus had with God. They were in perfect unity and harmony and they were both happy. Jesus mastered the art of pleasing God constantly. He had no other passion.
There was a time I had very strong passion for God but my love was lukewarm. I was pleasing Him all right but in my own way. When it came to pleasing God His own way I was a novice. I was very green yet I had very strong passion for Him. Gradually He started teaching me the difference between love and passion and He taught me how to love and please Him.
The only love and passion that God recognises is passion and love for His will and desire. Passion to please Him and do His will. Then I was passionate about His presence. I loved Him a lot but my love was not deep enough. When our love for God becomes deep all other loves will fade away and die. Pleasing Him will become more precious than the benefit of His presence. However, pleasing Him fully will draw down His presence without tedious effort.
God was taking me on a journey of complete surrender to His will. He told me that He only works with treated ground and that treated ground is perfect timing. Treated ground means treated perfected heart. We must lay our wills on the alter. Our wills must be scarified and replaced with God’s will. This is true worship that leads to constant victory.
I desired Him but I was not fully devoted to His will, plans and ways. I was walking in the written word of God but my area of struggle was following the voice of the Spirit about His plan for my life. I was not living in God’s plan and purpose for my life. Of course that attracted divine judgement unto correction and discipline. I opened the door to the devil through incomplete submission to the revealed will of God. The devil then found a foothold and had an upper hand over me. My prayers were also hindered. We must not be ignorant of the devil’s devices.
I did not make pleasing God my number one passion. There is a difference between desiring someone and desiring to please someone. I was love sick for the Lord’s presence, yet being lovesick for His presence and being committed to His cause are two different things. All He wanted was my love, devotion and dedication and He told me that over and over again. He thought me how to love Him, respect Him and please Him.
The only thing that God wants from man is love and worship and that love and worship must not be according to our own imagination but according to God’s pattern as prescribed in the Bible. Our imagination is simply an image, false idea or idol. Any other method we choose that opposes the Bible way of worship is a fantasy and will never lead to success. It will only lead to failure.
God desires true worship and He is looking for true worshipers. Those who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Those who will submit their lives as living sacrifices. Just as any human being with wisdom looks for true love in relationships instead of physical appearance, attributes and possessions, God is also looking for true lovers. He does not look at appearance. He is not looking for those who think they can use and control Him to satisfy every worldly and bodily craving. He wants true relationships that will blossom here on earth and continue in eternity. We cannot comprehend what God has prepared for those who love Him. True love and worship is God’s sole desire in creation. There is no other motive for creating man but man is so selfish he cannot understand the meaning of love and worship. True love is a strange language to man.
True love always involves elements of sacrificial living – giving up something pleasant in order to please the beloved. God intentionally made it that way and even practiced it when His son Jesus gave up His life for us. God simply wants to teach man how to love on earth so that He will be ready for higher dimensions of love in Heaven. Heaven is pure and nothing impure can enter it. Purity means pure love without conditions and attachments. Man has been hearing about love but to be honest, only very few people on earth understand the true meaning of love.
The day we decide to start loving God and others without conditions is the day we decide to start living fully – living the way God intended us to live. Full of love and blessing humanity with God’s supernatural love resting upon us. What man calls power, God calls love. Love is power but unfortunately man separates love from power and runs from pillar to post looking for power. Those who live like that live in the grave without knowing it. Grave citizens understand power but they don’t understand love.
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. – John 4:23
So then, my friends, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to Him. This is the true worship that you should offer. Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God—what is good and is pleasing to Him and is perfect. – Romans 12:1
We must let go of all other loves and hold onto just one love – the love of God. This is where the true satisfaction of man dwells. We must serve and worship one love alone and that love is Christ. The word of God and the will of God is the only refreshment and food that man needs. Man must not live by bread alone but sadly most men prefer to live only by bread.
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4
Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. – Acts 13:48
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you. – 2 Thessalonians 3:1
The word of God is our daily sustenance for growth, victory and godliness. Victory through worship comes through whole hearted love for the word of God. Panting after God must be panting after His word and seeking to do His will not panting after blessings or power.
There are so many loves within a man’s heart that make man happy in this world. These loves come from created things – things that God placed here on earth to make man happy as he waits for heaven. They are the good and perfect presents of God. Unfortunately, man prefers those good and perfect presents to God the creator Himself. Man would rather worship the created rather than the creator and this is against the purpose of creation.
Some people would rather commit any sin on this earth just to have mansions, children, husbands and other gifts. They even worship idols just to get whatever they want and are lured into devil worship. These people are aware of what they are doing and will argue that it is better to have those things and go to hell than not to have them. Unknown to them God is the only one that can give blessings without sorrow and their adultery and infidelity to God will eventually catch up with them. With just a little faithfulness and patience, God can show up and answer our prayers.
It is very surprising that a lot of people have chosen not to love God and this shows in their daily lives and actions but God will not be mocked. He deserves all our love and it is only when all other loves are superseded by the love of God that true victory will be attained.
Perfect vision leads to perfect love for God and perfect love for God is true worship. When the heart of man delights in the victories of Christ – His perfect love as displayed on the cross, then he is on his way to perfect vision. On that journey to perfect vision, when that same heart begins to see only the blood of Jesus that has redeemed him and set him free, he will dwell in perfect vision. Perfect vision is perfect faith because it is only vision that produces faith.
Your faith cannot be higher than your understanding of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross. It is only when you have perfect understanding that you have perfect vision and faith. This will in turn transform you into a God lover. This is true faith. True faith is when the heart of man is filled with clarity and positive thoughts about God and His works. A man of perfect vision can never see any evil, error and fault in God. He will never grumble and complain against God rather He will be filled with praise, admiration and worship for God because he understands the great trouble, sorrow and pain that Jesus bore on the cross just to set man free. Such a man will always celebrate Christ and His death on the cross no matter what. He will also celebrate God’s love and power.
No obstacle or trouble will make him change his faith and confession and he is even ready to keep holding on and clinging to his confession against all odds. That confession is that the blood of Jesus has set him free.
Jesus is our first love and we are His Children. It is very pathetic for a child to forget his father because the consequence will make the child live like an illegitimate child. When a father spits on his child’s face what can that child do?
Then the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, would she not be shamed seven days? Let her be shut out of the camp seven days, and afterward she may be received again. Numbers 12:14
An illegitimate child is not covered fully by law in many countries and cannot enjoy the full benefits of Sonship. The same principles apply spiritually – any Christian who chooses to live like an illegitimate son must be prepared for the consequence which is failure instead of victory.
Our love and our hearts belong to one person alone and that is our Lord, Jesus. It is only Jesus that deserves our love, adoration and worship and all other loves should be secondary to Jesus and must never compete or rival with Jesus. It is very dangerous for us to make Jesus number 2 or number 10. When we do that, we insult Jesus and can never have the best of Him.
Jesus died for us and made us His number one love and priority so we must reciprocate that love by making Him our number one love with all fervency. A cold heart is useless to God so we must make it our aim to revive our hearts. God is jealous over us and our hearts – He wants all our love and He wants top position in our hearts. That is the only way that we can excite Him and make Him happy. There is no need for us to reject God, snub Him and cause Him pain because anytime we cause Him pain we are only causing pain to our hearts. We actually harm ourselves when we hurt God because we are one spirit with Him and that stabbing or pain that we cause Him must reflect somewhere in our lives. It will land somewhere so it is only folly that makes us persist in grieving the heart of Him who loved us so much. God is so glorious and powerful that any stone you throw at Him will bounce back at you. It bounces back to make us examine our ways and make us fall in line with His will.
If our mind is filled with light, there can be no shadow or evil around us. It is darkness that attracts shadows. Anything evil or negative is a shadow and when we switch on the light, that shadow or darkness must disappear. Darkness can never overcome light so man must constantly wear the armour of light to defeat darkness. We must put on love, faith and hope. Darkness is simply our futile thoughts and imaginations. Thoughts that are false and have no substance in them. They are toxic thoughts that will keep polluting our minds until the mind collapses and dies. It is very important to reject false thoughts the same way that we reject toxic food.
We must keep reading the Bible to know which thought is toxic and which thought is healthy or life-giving. The word of God can save and heal so we must embrace the whole counsel of the word of God. It will not help us if we accept some Scriptures and reject some. It is the same word of God that says love your neighbour as yourself that says we are forgiven and healed by the blood of Jesus. It is also the same word that says rejoice in the Lord always and thank God in all circumstance. It is also the same word that says be anxious for nothing, pray without ceasing and also says those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. We must embrace the whole counsel of the word of God. The Bible cannot tell us we are blessed and we say we are cursed. That is spiritual suicide.
Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin. – Romans 4:7
God is not counting our sins against us and love does not keep a record of wrongs. We must believe, obey, worship, pray and be led by the Holy Spirit – there is no other way. Doubt is as deadly as disobedience because without faith it is impossible for us to please God. We must pray to God for Him to renew, repair and heal our minds and we must also meditate constantly on the word of God which is able to save our souls.
Our spiritual eyes must be filled with light so we must decide what to look at. Either we are looking at the word of God which is light or we are looking at the thoughts of man which is darkness. Every doctrine and teaching has a spirit behind it and once we accept a false teaching, the spirit of darkness takes over. We must respect God – God cannot tell us that something is A, and we insist that thing is Z. This amounts to pride and punishable by the law of God.
Pride won’t take us anywhere with God. We must be like little children at the feet of Christ always willing and eager to learn. The Holy Spirit is our teacher and we must listen to Him always. Anytime we reject a teaching from the word of God or a specific instruction from the Holy Spirit we are rejecting Him – the Spirt of life and light and Lord on earth. The Holy Spirit gives life, the last Adam is the life giving Spirit and where the Spirit is, there is liberty so it is in our best interest to accept Him and His thoughts. However we should not accept Him out of fear and selfishness but out of love and respect. The bitter truth is that if we don’t love and respect Him and His word we will live in fear.
It is not enough to claim you are a Christian. You must believe in the very essence of Christianity and the substance that makes you a Christian. That substance is the blood of Jesus. Anyone that does not believe that the blood of Jesus cleansed him from all past sins is indirectly in the opposition party. We must not oppose the word of God in our thoughts attitude and actions. Accepting fearful thoughts instead of the faith thoughts is a form of allegiance with the opposition against the word of God. Instead of joining demons and their invincible opposition army and campaign against the word of God, we must join forces with the word of God and obtain oneness with Christ at all Cost.
We must be aggressively stubborn in our faith and the freedom that the blood of Jesus has given us. By His stripes we are healed. Anyone who doubts His salvation has given up his rights and claims to freedom by denying the blood of Jesus that set him free. It is useless to us if we partake in all sorts of useless rituals and activities and still deny Jesus and His blood. The blood of Jesus and Christ’s death on the cross is the foundation and life of Christianity and rejecting it is the same as swallowing spiritual poison. It does not matter how well you think you are doing now, without absolute confidence in the blood of Jesus, failure will meet you in the future and the worst failure is losing your soul.
There is an eternal medicine that heals, refreshes and restores and that medicine is the blood of Jesus. We must not look down on the blood of Jesus that purified us, rather we must exalt the blood of Jesus that set us free and cleanses us from sin. We must constantly thank God and rejoice in the blood of Jesus.
True love for God and true worship of God rests solely in perfect faith in the blood of Jesus and responding to God’s love through complete obedience to His will.
There is no power or affliction that is superior to the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus is superior to every negative power and sickness. God has given us a weapon that is mightier than millions of bombs. The blood of Jesus can neutralize and reenergise our spirit man. The spirit of man can transform and heal itself by the power of Christ. The body of man is not the problem of man, the spirit is.
The spirit of man is what determines the condition of the outward man. If your spirit is well, your body will be well. We must understand that man is a spirit. It is sad that a lot of humans prefer to look at man as just the flesh alone thereby relegating man to the position of a helpless pathetic being.
Man is much bigger and greater that what our minds make him up to be. Understanding who you are in Christ Jesus and tapping into the multidimensional powers of the blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit will lift you up to spiritual heights that you never dreamed of before.
Make up your mind that no amount of opposition and battery from the powers of darkness will make you look down on the blood of Jesus or join the opposition. True victory starts with the blood of Jesus, and consolidates as you keep rejoicing in the blood of Jesus that set you free with complete obedience.
Man is a blessed being and that is simply the truth. However, must make it our aim to grow in that blessedness. The Bible says that we are blessed and not cursed. Please forget about your past and whatever sins you or your ancestors committed. As far as God is concerned, it is finished. There is no more argument about that. Your sins are forgiven by the blood of Jesus. God has cancelled the mistakes of the past and is not flogging you over it, however the devil the accuser has vowed to keep refreshing your past before your eyes so that He can beat you hands down without a single shot fired. He only plays games with our minds in order to knock us out. It is a battle of the mind. The mind can make and unmake man. As a man thinks, so is He. If you are ungrateful and prefer to think that you are cursed instead of thanking God and celebrating God for Christ’s love on the cross, all you will see is curses. It’s that simple, get rid of negativism and embraces positive thoughts. Positive thoughts towards God will never hurt you. It makes no sense to come to God, yet harbour all sorts of suspicions and insecurities about God.
There is no need to keep thinking of God as someone who is out to get you and punish you instead of someone who loved you so much and died to set you free. It also won’t pay us if we proclaim God’s love and go around hating others and harming others. We must live the lives we were created to live and that life is a life of freedom, victory and triumph – Victory over faithlessness, selfishness, unbelief and freedom over all manner of sins and mischief.
We must forget about mischief and playing games with man and God. It simply won’t get us anywhere and certainly won’t help us obtain the victory we ardently crave. We must cleave to perfect love, faith and hope in complete obedience to Christ – we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling. There is no other way. We must never join the opposition party against God, it is fruitless and deadly.
How about deciding to celebrate God’s love no matter what. Come rain, come sunshine and storm we conclude the matter within our hearts to set out time every day to rejoice in and celebrate God’s love. We just marvel at Him and love Him like no one has ever loved Him before. We make up our minds to forget self and its doubts and sorrows and just worship God with fervour and ardour.
Remember that praise and worship is the only activity that precedes heaven and will follow us to heaven. It will not cease in heaven, rather, it will be consummated in heaven. We must not take worship lightly because it is the very specific purpose of our existence – nothing else will do. God is looking for a relentless army of worshippers who have determined within their hearts to love Him against all odds.
There will be opposition but opposition should never cause us to abandon our worship and admiration of Christ rather, opposition should make us shame our enemy. We meet the enemy at the battle ground of the mind and wrestle with Him until He gives up because He will definitely give up if we don’t give up.
One person must give up, one person must win the war. Either we win or the enemy wins. Christ has defeated the enemy but we must defeat Him in our minds by working out our own salvation with fear and trembling. There is no need for us to pay lip service to God, yet when trials come we quickly chicken out and go into anxiety and sadness. Sadness has never won the Christian battle in all of history. Only joy can defeat anxiety and defeat sadness. We must decide to embrace healthy mental attitudes rather than sadness.
What we think is what we will feel and if you doubt me try it and conclude the result by yourself. Decide today to spend hours especially at midnight every day in worship, rejoicing and celebration of God’s power and the forgiveness and love that God gave us on the cross and see if your dreams won’t change. Your daytime negative opposing thoughts will shape your night time dreams and sustain and retain negative spirits. The word of God and rejoicing in the Lord however will sustain, attract and retain the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit. We already have the Holy Spirit but we can make Him inactive by our lifestyles. If we think His thoughts we achieve oneness with Him and begin to experience His love and mercy.
You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. – Acts 7:54
On the other hand, if we reject His thoughts – the word of God, we will not experience His presence. It is only the man who loves the word of God that loves the Holy Spirit. When we reject His words and thoughts – the word of God, we actively reject Him. We need to make up our minds to embrace aggressive faith and enter into victory.
Your mind is your spiritual eye. The Bible instructs us to keep our eyes on things that are unseen not the visible things. This instruction if practiced is guaranteed to encourage us in our fight of faith. When we fix our minds on heavenly things we will never lose hope but if we fix our minds on earthly woes – poverty, sickness, war, hatred, natural disasters, plagues, oppression, racism, tribalism with its endless list, we will never be holy.
Nothing good can ever come out of meditating on evil and negative circumstances. The Bible commands us to meditate on things that are pure. We must meditate on God’s great power and the love and sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. – Philippians 4:8
We must stop judging God and criticizing God to the point that we completely loose hope in God. The only reason that people refuse to worship God is because they are not convinced God is Good or powerful. They subsequently reject Him and turn to idol worship which is double tragedy. The first tragedy is to reject God and the second tragedy is to worship idols even if you baptise them with heavenly names.
An idol is an idol and no matter how demons transform, masquerade or transfigure they will always be worshipped in the same manner – setting up of images, statues, alters, and pictures that represent heavenly beings. They are also worshipped by clinging to physical things like oil, water, salt, drinks, incense, handkerchiefs, rings, chains, beads, bracelets, food items, perfumes and other physical charms and amulets and attributing power to them. They also make sure that you don’t fix your mind on God and His prescribed method of worship.
A charm is a charm no matter how you fine-tune, masquerade, elevate and baptise it. Magic is magic so don’t bother picking up water, oil or stone and baptising it Holy oil or water, Anointing oil, Jesus, Holy Spirit or blood of Jesus. I have seen people do this and wept within my heart – a day of reckoning is coming without warning. The Lord has been specifically telling me to warn Christians about the dangers of idol worship. It works like magic because human blood and spell casting empowers every form of idolatry and it is extremely dangerous. Most of the time the participants are not even aware that they are partaking of human blood and the table of demons.
When judgement descends there will be no hiding place. Please anyone who is involved must value his life, forsake idolatry and run for cover under the blood of Jesus. Man needs to stop fixing his eyes on physical objects and calling it God, Jesus or saviour. He also needs to stop attributing power to physical things and calling it holy, Jesus or God – it doesn’t make sense.
Do not worship the LORD your God in the way these pagan peoples worship their gods. – Deuteronomy 12:4
Do not worship the Lord your God in the way they worship their gods, for in the worship of their gods they do all the disgusting things that the Lord hates. They even sacrifice their children in the fires on their altars. – Deuteronomy 12:31
Even if you build the largest alter on earth to enthrone Jesus, you will only enthrone demons. Jesus does not live in temples made by human hands – He lives in heaven and in human hearts which is purely spiritual. He does not dwell in physical objects.
However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: ‘Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool.
What house will you build for Me? says the Lord,
Or what is the place of My rest? Has My hand not made all these things?’ – Acts 7:48
For as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription:
TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.
Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. – Acts 17:24
If you know that you are involved in any religious practice that the Apostles did not engage in, you are worshipping an idol. You must review and examine the practices and spirit you are following. It is either you are following the spirit of truth or spirit of error. Every spirit of error is idol worship. An idol is a god that does not exist but exists only in the mind of the worshipper thereby enabling the ignorant person to worship death and demons.
An idol is a make believe fantasy god. It is not real. Simply put, an idol is a figment of man’s imagination which empowers the devil. When man empowers the devil, a demon will be assigned to pretend to be the so called name you baptise your god. If you baptise your idol Jesus, God, biblical names or ordinary names, a demon will simply pretend to be Jesus, God or any name you baptise your god.
We must be very careful because there is only one God. The man of sin mentioned in Thessalonians will simply do what demons are already doing – sit as God in the temple of God. The spirit of man is the temple of God and many people have given demons large thrones in their spirits by idol worship. Demons are sitting in God’s temple – the spirit of man as God. Satan simply specializes in transforming himself to a form that man will accept.
Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. – 2nd Thessalonians 2:4
And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. – 2nd Corinthians 11:14
These so called gods are imaginary. Just imagine the kind of havoc that happens to man when what is imaginary takes up a life of its own. The god created by man ends up being a monster much more wicked than the man that created it. Man made a god he taught he could control and ended up being controlled by a very wicked monstrous idol that keeps demanding for human blood. Idol worship is a very big trap for those who hate the word of God. Subsequently, no man has ever been able to destroy the idol created by his ancestors by his own power.
Only God can destroy an idol and our God is much stronger than a million idols, but we must not be enticed back into the sins of our ancestors in a modernised way where man creates an idol and calls it Jesus. It is despicable.
We know that an idol stands for something that does not really exist; we know that there is only the one God. Even if there are so-called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, and even though there are many of these “gods” and “lords,” yet there is for us only one God, the Father, who is the Creator of all things and for whom we live; and there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created and through whom we live. But not everyone knows this truth. – 1 Corinthians 8:5
What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s Table and of the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? – 1 Corinthians 10:20
It is either you are worshipping life or death. Behind every form of error and idol worship human sacrifices and human blood is offered secretly sometimes without the consciousness or knowledge of the ardent worshipper. That is why we must never get involved in practices that contradict the Bible. Those who hate the truth – the word of God, end up falling into the traps of the devil. The Holy Spirt Himself has given me many visions and revelations on the subject of idol worship. Fall in line with the word of God and fix your mind on heavenly things and the heavenly method of worship stipulated in the Bible. Any man who claims to know more than the Bible will fall into a deadly snare and any man who loves God will cling to the Bible – he will not go beyond what is written.
Jesus worshiped God in spirit and in truth. Worship is not just about songs rather it is a life style. Worship is a lifestyle of complete dedication, devotion and sacrifice which subsequently translates into complete praise, worship, adoration, celebration and thanksgiving. When we offer our lives as living sacrifices acceptable to God, we know that we are worshippers. That is the true worship that God desires.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. – Romans 12:1
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. – John 4:23
Any love that does not express itself in deeds and action is a fake love, it is not real. Real love is always eager to please the beloved. It is not enough to keep saying you love someone, yet when a little trial comes to that person you disappear. Fair weather friendship is not true love. It is a worldly opportunistic lustful love that takes advantage of anyone it meets. It drips sorrow and misery on its path. A lot of broken hearts were damaged by fair weather opportunistic lovers who abandon the so called lover in time of need. Love must prove itself in action.
All over the world, we see selfishness and self-worship in different forms and varying degrees. People generally do things just to please their emotions and appetite. This has led to millions of abandoned children and broken marriages. We must not carryover that fair-weather friendship attitude towards God. Our love for God must be a pure and sincere love which expresses itself in complete obedience, prayer, loyalty, dedication, praise, worship and thanksgiving
Worship as a Sacrifice
Worship as love in action is a life of sacrifice. Loving God is an act that must cost us something. When we realise that every moment of our lives is borrowed time belonging to God, we will be eager to please Him. It is a narrow way.
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. – Hebrews 13:15
Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. – 1 Peter 2:4
When we give up our lives as living sacrifices acceptable to God, God’s heart beat becomes our heart beat. We listen to His heartbeat. I remember a vision I had a long time ago. In this vision the Lord came to me and picked me up. Instantly I turned into a very little child. Then He carried me up and pressed my ear to His Chest where His heart was beating. When I started listening to His heartbeat I looked up into His face and His eyes were closed as He inhaled deeply. Then I woke up. He was simply telling me to make Him happy by listening to His heart beat.
Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; my ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require. Then I said, “Behold, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me. I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart.” – Psalm 40:6
Getting to know His will and fully and completely submitting to it was all He wanted from me. Yet, this simple desire seems so complex to man and most humans never get to the point where they live completely for God as an act of thanksgiving and gratitude to Him for the wonderful love He displayed on the cross. Most of us are busy counting and numbering what we don’t have instead of counting our blessings. Joy is a decision, we must decide to be joyful instead of sorrowful.
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord. – Psalm 27:6
Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. – Philippians 3:1
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! – Philippians 4:4
His death on the cross and His great love and mercy is enough for us to wake up every day celebrating Him. Ingratitude never pays. If we want to be victorious through worship, we must forget our past and sorrows and rest in Christ. We must rest in His great redemption on the cross and offer living sacrifices to God. We must offer living sacrifices of obedience, praise and thanksgiving. We must thank and praise God even when we don’t feel like, and it seems as if the whole world is against us.
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord. – Psalm 4:5
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. – Hebrew 13:15
Worship is great sacrifice and we must always see God as our great Daddy whom we don’t want to grieve.
We can ask ourselves this simple question. Can we really talk about worship and exclude obedience? The answer is no. Worshipping God is an activity that should include all and everything that we are. Obedience is the heart of worship and true worshippers understand this very well. Just look at the life of David, He was a worshipper. The Bible describes David as a man after God’s heart and this means that David was a worshipper in Spirit and in truth. He was not just saying Lord, Lord and paying lip service. He was a man after God’s happiness.
But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you. – 1 Samuel 13:14
Then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” – Hebrews 10:9
Jesus was addicted to the law of God. Anyone who desires to have victory must be addicted to the law of God. That royal law of love must be uplifted and embraced at all times. David was constantly panting after the law of God. A look at the life of David will give you a glimpse at the heart of the man behind the psalms.
It is not possible for us to do God’s will if we don’t understand what is. This means that we have to diligently search the Scriptures concerning every Bible subject to know the do’s and don’ts. So many variables are required in doing God’s will. We must know His will, be willing to do His will and be capable of doing His will
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. – Ephesians 5:17
Because God is always at work in you to make you willing and able to obey his own purpose. – Philippians 2:13
The truth is that it takes prayer, and faith to faithfully worship God. If we are willing to do God’s will and pray for ability, God will provide the grace. The trouble is that most people are not even willing to do God’s will, then some who are willing, do not even bother to know His will. How can God help a man who is not even willing to obey Him? This is a problem in itself so God will have to step in and make that man willing to obey Him. Unfortunately or fortunately, godly sorrow is what produces repentance in stubborn children. God disciplines us and Jesus said in Revelation “I rebuke and chasten those I love, repent therefore.” If we are not willing to do God’s will, God will break, prune and correct us and that correction will always be a painful experience.
Yes, God can make us willing and able to do His will and this must be the cry of our hearts. The cry of our hearts must be to love Him more and for Him to show us His way. Love and worship is very interesting when we have been captured by God. We must desire to be completely captured by God and truly become His beloved like Jesus. We must give God a chance to boast about us and say “see my beloved, He constantly desires to please me!” Love is powerful! Love is stronger than death and judgement, and perfect love casts out all fear.
The reason why the Bible says that love is greater than faith and hope is because love includes faith and hope. Love is all about pleasing God and without faith it is impossible to please God. Perfect love for God includes all Bible virtues and perfect love casts out all fear.
Crucify your Will
In our walk with God, it is vital that we let go of our own will. We must crucify our dreams, desires, passions and ambitions in order to pursue what pleases Christ. We must constantly make it our food to find out what pleases God and do it.
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” – John 4:34
And find out what pleases the Lord. – Ephesians 5:10
It is only in losing our own will and life that we will find true life and happiness. Self must die and Christ must rule us. This is the true Christian life. We must choose who we want to serve. We cannot serve God and self. Complete obedience is not a choice but a mandate. Christ died so that we may die to sin and live for righteousness. By His stripes we are healed.
We must not look down on the blood of Jesus that purified us or insult the Spirit of grace. We must not despise the son of God because any time we disobey God, we are crucifying Christ again.
Let us therefore sacrifice our own will and live for God alone.
Then I said, “Behold, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me. I delight to do Your will, O my God. – Psalm 40:7
Undivided attention, loyalty and faithfulness – these are very interesting words to the true lovers of God. If we truly desire to please God we must know the power of focus. Focus is what will enable us not to lose sight of our objectives as Christians and our objective should always be to please Christ. It is not about tricks and gimmicks that we think can use to force God to bless us. It is about God and our desire to constantly put a smile on His face. God has emotions and it is very unfair to treat God like a machine, object or a robot. Blessing us is not a big deal to God. If we study the life of God lovers in the Bible we will find evidence to confirm that God embarrasses His lovers with unimaginable blessings. From Abraham to Joseph, David, and Solomon. God also embarrassed Jesus and Paul with unusual anointing. They became so famous they could not hide or pass by unnoticed.
Blessings are no big deal to God, it is the heart of man that is a big deal to God. God wants undivided attention from our hearts. He wants us to surrender our hearts completely to Him. God created the world within seven days so what is it that we need that is such a big deal to God. There is no difference between heaven and earth. Sometimes I close my eyes and I find myself looking into heaven from my bed. There is no distance. The only thing that separates heaven from earth is lack of complete devotion to God.
Any Christian who desires victory through worship must start with undivided attention as He also worships God in songs of love, thanksgiving, and praise with His lips and in Church. The fruit of our lips must be pleasing to Him and be as the evening sacrifice.
Sanctification is a word that we don’t hear much of in this present Church age but sanctification precedes authority and power.
Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honour, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God. – 1 Thessalonians 4:1
That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy. – Colossians 1:10
Peace is the reward for a faithful heart that loves God very dearly and it is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Love for God is about pleasing God completely and without faith it is impossible to please God. This is why love is greater than faith because faith is part of pleasing God. Hope is also part of pleasing God so faith, hope and love are very critical.
We must pursue faith, hope and love and realise that love is the greatest, however we must also be filled with faith and hope because we can’t please God without faith and hope.
Any man that wants to have victory through worship must forget about self and selfish cravings, dreams, ambitions and desires. Self must be totally crucified on the altar of love. If you are the type of person that always puts your feelings and desires above every other thing and you claim to be a Christian, you are bringing shame on Christianity and openly crucifying Christ over and over again. You definitely need a rethink or be sure to meet Christ in the place of judgement.
We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbour for his good, leading to edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.” – Romans 15:1
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. – Romans 12:15
Selfishness is for pagans and God haters not for Christians. It is wrong and an insult to Christ for a man to wear the tag or label of Christianity without being a Christian. It is so wrong and God hates it. The Lord spoke to me recently and said “So many people are God worshippers but not many people are Christians.” Many so called God worshippers are not Christ like in worship and behaviour, yet they claim to worship God. They are simply content to wear Christianity as a tag or a label.
True worship is about selflessness. Loving God and humanity above all else and pleasing God is the only way.
Just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. 1 Corinthians 10:33
We must make it our principal desire to please God and worship Him. That is the reason for our existence.
In order to effectively worship God, we need to marry the right person. We need to marry someone that shares our values, goals, dreams and passions. It is wrong to marry someone that will derail us from worshipping God in spirit and truth. It is very vital and important for us to marry an unselfish person who will always put God first and his or her partner, number two. That is the divine order of things concerning all relationships and marriages. We must love Christ more than mother, father, children, wives and husbands. Anyone who puts God first in all decisions can never be selfish and cause harm to others.
He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. – Matthew 8:37
The wisest decision we can ever make in choosing a marriage partner is to pray for and choose a person who has made Christ his number one and first love. Christ must be our first love.
Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. – Revelation 2:4
It is actually a sin for a believer to relegate second or third place to Christ. Christ Himself desires first place in our hearts because that is the only thing that can produce harmony in our relationships especially marriage. Without that, marriage becomes a mockery of what God intends it to be and divorce will be the only consequence. Incompatibility, wrong choice, poor communication and selfishness is the cause of marital discord and disharmony.
Any Christian that desires to achieve victory through worship must make it easier for himself by choosing a partner wisely.
But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. – Hebrews 13:16
For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise. – Psalm 51:16
A humble and repentant heart pleases God. A heart that is open and always willing to learn and accept correction. A heart that sees each new day and experience as an opportunity to learn new things from God and grow. True worship is about constantly finding out what pleases God and doing it. It is about turning our backs on things that do not edify like spending time on Face-book and social media. If we must use social media we need to make sure we do not spend too much time there. We must not be idle busy bodies, there is nothing attractive about an unfocussed timewaster.
As Christians who long to achieve victory through worship, we must discipline our minds. Our everyday life must be very pleasing and attractive to God.
There is no benefit in materialism because our hearts were created for God and eternal things rather than material things and this material world. The only thing that we will get from materialism is sorrow and broken hearts. Materialism has destroyed so many people and will keep on destroying. In unbridled quest for fame, wealth, success and prosperity many have been led astray and forsaken Christ. They have also broken their hearts with many sorrows. Please, can you explain how someone who started out singing in Church transforms into a “pop star” or reality TV star who publicly displays a very unchristian lifestyle?
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. – 1 Timothy 6:10
Some Christians also engage in businesses and jobs that Christians should not even contemplate. When a so called Christian decides to work in nightclubs and bars we know that materialism is at work. What about Christians who peddle false doctrines and dilute the gospel just to get large congregations. Materialism will simply make you forget and lose your Christian values.
We must also get rid of anger. Anger is a negative emotion that destroys. I know it is painful for a lot of people to withdraw from anger but let’s consider this – anger can lead to all sorts of stress related illnesses so why pamper anger. The truth is that instead of nurturing and feeding anger in our minds, we should learn to let go and replace anger with positive creative thoughts. We need to cultivate a habit of overlooking and ignoring insults.
One method I have found useful is creativity and innovation. Channeling our minds towards creative thinking, energy and creativity can make a world of difference. Have you noticed that when you are busy, your mind automatically shuts off all other thoughts from flowing in? God created the human mind for positive emotions and creativity. He also created our minds to be busy.
Stay focused, busy and creative while also enjoying what you do. Be passionate about an activity that yields positive results to you and others and anger will flee.
We must also get rid of attachments. Attachments lead to obsession and obsessions leads to great sorrow. It is good to like good things but we must be careful how we prioritise our needs. If we don’t make pleasing God our principal goal and desire, we will crash. Seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness is what God wants us to seek first.
As we seek that and seek God’s face in rejoicing, praise and thanksgiving, victory will be our companion. However, when we reverse the order and begin to seek and pant after good things instead of seeking God’s will we become pagans. Most humans are pagans without even knowing it. We must review our ways, if our life is all about what we want God to do for us and we are not even trying to find out what pleases the Lord, we are unconscious pagans.
The Bible says “find out what pleases the Lord.” He has feelings too you know. We can’t just treat Him the way we treat our fellow humans. Man won’t succeed if man wants to use God and dump Him the way man uses others and dumps them without remorse or regret – this is wisdom, it is impossible to manipulate God or take advantage of Him.
A lot of people do things for vain reasons. Man naturally loves praise and attention and this attitude is very much alive in the Church. So many people serve God with impure motives. Some people love the respect and attention that comes by being a pastor yet their way of life contradicts what they preach. These are not true men of God because the number one trait should be humility. Jesus came to serve.
Jesus lived the life of a servant and was filled with humility. It is not possible to be successful as a proud Christian or minister. We must be completely Christ like. It is pride and vainglory that makes man crave after praise and approval from men. This is a very wrong attitude because it is only when we do things for the glory of God that God will recognise us as true worshippers.
For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ
Not with eye service, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord. – Ephesians 6:6
We have the Holy Spirit but we need the manifest presence of God. For us to experience all the fruits of the Holy Spirit, we need to be fully pleasing to God. It does not matter how much we cry and desire the Holy Spirit, what matters is our consecration and submission. If we constantly cause God pain and refuse to follow the word of God and leading of the Holy Spirit on how to pray, we will fail.
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God. – Ephesians 5:18
We must remember that ultimate victory through worship manifests in the Holy Spirit filling us and resting upon us. This will in turn transform the worshipper into a fruit bearing vine and a deliverer like Christ.
Christianity of today has become all talk and no evidence or witness of the Holy Spirit. Nobody wants to pay the price like Paul to partner with the Holy Spirit in confirming His word. Paul himself said he did not preach the gospel with just talks but by demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit. The Bible instructs us to desire spiritual gifts and the only way to manifest spiritual gifts is by prayer and worship. If we want to be true ministers, we must desire to be effective by doing all it takes to manifest the gifts of the Holy Spirt because humanity needs it. We must heal the world by the power of the Holy Spirit and make the world a better place.
We must not think about our enemies. Do not even entertain their thoughts in your mind because it will only lead to bitterness and pollute you. Just focus on God’s love and mercy. There is no need to wonder why some people or group of people hate you. Just the fact that you are a human and was born is enough to attract haters into your life. Someone who hates your father can decide to hate you and there is nothing you can do about it. From the inception of the world, innocent people have been targeted for hate and abuse and there is nothing anyone can do to stop people who want to hate from hating.
Please what was the crime of Abel who was killed by his brother or Joseph who was sold into slavery by His brothers? David was targeted for hate by Saul and Jesus was hated by the teachers of the law. What of the children of Israel that were hated by Pharaoh and the Egyptians. What was their crime? There is no record of any offense by them but Pharaoh simply hated them. Hatred is not physical but spiritual. Sometimes it is possible that someone will take just one look at you and decide to hate you just as someone will take one look at you and irresistibly love you. Why should you care, you must make up your mind to be emotionally strong and not care if people hate you. Focus on the people that love you and do the best you can to make others happy.
Let them curse, but You bless; when they arise, let them be ashamed, but let Your servant rejoice. – Psalm 109:28
Remembering your past is like carrying extra baggage that will definitely slow you down and harm you. Remembering your not so good past is like self-condemnation and self-hate and no one has the right to hate himself. Jesus says we should love our neighbours as ourselves so self-love is not bad. It is only when we decide to harm others as a result of self-love that it becomes bad. It is when what should lead to self-preservation leads to the destruction of others that we become alarmed.
Self-love is natural but we must remember that we should love others the same way we love ourselves. Jesus and Paul never hated themselves yet they loved others.
Of course we can only impress God by God’s grace. Just as a human father wants his children to care about impressing him, so God’s simply wants us to impress Him. We must impress God in our speech, confidence, career, friendships, marriage and in the ways we take care of the children he has given to us.
We must love our husbands and wives to please and impress God. We must decide to be the best partners, parents and children – that is what makes God happy. It is not just about praying for children and partners but for us to understand that we have a duty towards God to make our children and partners as happy as possible.
We must impress God in the way we love our friends. Remember that God is the master of all friendships and that friendship is divine. In heaven, we will be overwhelmed by lots of wonderful heavenly friends. That is part of what makes heaven exciting.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. – Proverbs 10:17
A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. – Psalm 10:24
We must also avoid every form of malice. I never read anywhere in the Bible that Jesus or Paul kept malice with anybody. If we call ourselves Christians and still can’t resist the urge to keep malice, then we deceive ourselves. A Christian should not be involved with any form of hate.
We need to realise that anytime we obey God, we are loving and worshipping Him. It is the same thing as falling at His feet and proclaiming “Lord Jesus, you are my Master, I love you.” One area where we need to show great love for God is how we treat our bodies. God hates sexual immorality a lot so if we want to be true worshippers, we must hate whatever God hates. This was the attitude of Jesus when He lived on earth.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality. – 1 Thessalonian 4:3
One thing that we must realise is that God’s way is not like our way and His thoughts are higher than ours. Some people do not understand God’s commandments and wonder why they must keep all so they choose the ones they want to obey and ignore the rest. I have come across some believers who have told me that fornication is not a sin and that God can overlook fornication if that person is a faithful man of God.
They have been deluded into thinking that some things just don’t matter but this is not true. Whatever the Bible has labelled sin matters and must be regarded as deadly poison to be avoided at all cost. Sexual immorality is among the deadliest of poisons preceded only by idolatry and killing. The truth is that judgement comes when we least expect.
You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. – Matthew 5:27
The Bible even instructs us to keep away from sexually immoral people who are Christians. Bad company corrupts good character so it is very important for us to keep away from sexually immoral friends. The Bible also says that it is better to marry than burn with passion so I believe that people should just go ahead and get married instead of stealing what doesn’t belong to them. Married people should also respect the sanctity and holiness of marriage. Sexual immorality does not bring anything good and hidden beneath its surface of excitement and pleasure lies sorrow and judgement.
Lack of love for God leads to disobedience and disobedience kills. Just as the devil enticed Eve to disobey God by believing that nothing would happen to her as a direct consequence of her actions, most humans have been deceived into ungodly lifestyles with the same conviction that it does not matter. However it matters very much because sin is a deadly poison deadlier than a million bombs. This is true knowledge – to worship God, flee all appearances of sin, meditate on the word of God, pray always and follow the voice of the Holy Spirit. Nothing else will do, this is victory. Victory through worship, simply put is a lifestyle of worship, love, gratitude and appreciation of God revealing itself in complete obedience and constant prayer, praise, worship, thanksgiving and love expressed towards God.
If you are an ardent reader of the word of God and have read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation you will realise that one thing is consistent throughout the pages of the Bible – God’s hatred for sin and God’s desire to be loved and worshipped. God hates sin with perfect hatred and this hatred for sin is an eternal hatred. The only reason why man believes in heaven and paradise is because there is no evil and sin in heaven.
Man is not as undiscerning as He sometimes thinks he is by his actions. Man desires a place where there is no sin, evil and judgement yet man is not willing to give up sin and encourages others to live in sin. If people are free to say that fornication and homosexuality is not sin why are Christians being persecuted for standing by their faith – homosexuality, fornication, adultery and all sorts of sexual perversion is sin. Even if we fall into any sexual sin, we must not insult God by claiming that our action is not sin.
There is no need for man to pretend that everything is acceptable. Any thought or action that contradicts any Bible teaching is disobedience and will always have a negative impact on us. Unfortunately, some leaders are encouraging sin and destroying the world. We must be careful not to take God for granted because He will not be mocked. The only thing we owe God is love and worship and love does not hate or contradict God’s word.
Waiting upon the Lord is like a personal retreat where the worshipper sets out time in order to seek God’s face and obtain favours from Him. Unfortunately, some problems will not go away except by protracted and extended long periods of prayer especially midnight prayer and self-denial.
However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. – John 17:21
If the worshipper can fast when he is waiting upon the Lord that is good, but if he can’t fast, he must wake up in the middle of the night and pray for not less than four hours every night during this period of personal retreat. He must also spend very long hours during the day in Bible reading and praise and worship. Anything less than eight hours is too small. If we really want heaven to come down and visit us, we must be relentless in what we are seeking.
You must go into prayer with passion and remain in the presence of God to have victory. If you are not willing to sacrifice your time and effort, forget about victory because spiritual victory is not cheap. It is not for lazy people, rather it is for determined organised people who can focus for long periods of time so you need to make up your mind to be determined and focused in God’s presence.
Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. – Psalm 37:34
Daniel determined within his heart to seek the Lord in prayer and supplication. This is the kind of prayer that brings victory. Jesus also often went to the mountain alone to pray and renew the anointing upon His life.
And great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed. – Luke 5:15
He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. – John 14:22
Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. – Daniel 9:3
Waiting upon the Lord will prevent us from falling into temptations and making wrong decisions. Jesus chose His twelve disciples after praying all night in the wilderness. Jesus also advised the disciples to pray always so that they won’t fall into temptation. The life of Jesus actively testifies to the fact that He was not a victim of constant temptations and He also defeated temptations when He was tempted by the devil. It is not by power or might but by God’s Spirit. Only God can strengthen us and give us victory over temptations. God can also prevent temptations from flooding into our lives like waves without shores and borders. We must aggressively reject overflows of temptations in the place of prayer.
Some people are always in one temptation or the other and have been caged by all sorts of bad habits and vices. A life of prayer and waiting upon the Lord is the solution to temptations and wrong decisions. Be proactive and avoid temptations. Jesus even taught us to pray not to be led into temptation.
He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles. – Luke 6:12
“What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 25:40
The only way we can walk in the spirit and have victory over the flesh is by constant prayer.
Prayer is an activity that a lot of people find difficult but it is more important than the air we breathe and the bread we eat. Prayer guarantees oxygen to our spiritual lungs and that oxygen is grace. With prayer we will never be suffocated by temptations, sins and judgement. Anyone who masters the art of prayer has mastered life. Every good and perfect gift comes from God and obstacles, problems and afflictions can only be resolved through prayer. There are many challenges on this earth that don’t have solutions. There are also stubborn afflictions that refuse to go no matter what. Also some problems like chronic poverty and bad luck come from curses.
Can you imagine the mental state of a man who is constantly bombarded with chronic bad luck? This man may be intelligent and hardworking yet whatever he does fails. Failure waits for him at every junction and corner of life with boldness, ferocity and impunity. He is not experiencing the blessings of God due to some stubborn negative spirits from his foundation. Such a man needs to master the art of prayer and rise above life’s challenges. He is already redeemed by the blood of Jesus so those afflictions need to respect the blood of Jesus and flee. Jesus is our medicine, answer and solution. However, before those afflictions can respect the blood of Jesus, the person in question must himself respect the blood of Jesus and believe that he is redeemed. He must also pray with aggression and praise and worship God at midnight with reckless abandon. He must also realise that anytime he sins, he is disrespecting the blood of Jesus that redeemed him.
For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? – Hebrews 10:26
He must flee all appearances of evil and live a life of faith, holiness, thanksgiving, praise, worship and rejoicing. He must persist and persevere in the place of prayer until the mercy of God manifests. There is no problem that is a big deal, the only big deal is human unbelief, self-reliance and ingratitude.
There is no problem that is bigger than God, however, man must learn how to trust in God and rejoice in His salvation. Man must learn to constantly see the blood of Jesus that redeemed him. Our focus must shift from our problems to God’s power. We must learn how to stop grumbling and complaining and respect God. We must stop seeing God as our enemy, because anytime we grumble or complain against God, we are treating Him like an enemy and that negative attitude will not take us to victory. Our victory needs to come from worship and prayer.
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. – Ephesians 6:18
We must constantly look for opportunities to glorify God not put Him down. There is a difference between exalting Jesus and insulting and rejecting Him. We must realise that even our lifestyle and prayerlessness can be a form of rejection. The Bible instructs us to ask and receive. Anytime we sin and harm someone else just a little bit, we are rejecting and insulting Christ.
It is very vital and important to pray with joy. Any prayer that is not accompanied by joy, thanksgiving, calm and peace is not a prayer of faith. Anxiety with prayer indicates lack of faith and trust. The Bible says we should be anxious for nothing and present our petitions to God. Patience is like an oil and a balm that soothes the anxious prayer. Sadness also indicates lack of faith and ingratitude. Any mind that is filled with rejoicing, praise, thanksgiving, worship and celebration cannot be depressed. Sadness, sorrow and heaviness has a cure – rejoicing in the Lord.
From my own experience, anytime I start getting sad over anything at all the Lord speaks to me to correct me. The Lord quotes “Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say it rejoice.” Or He would say “be grateful, be thankful, praise me and tell me you love me.” He gave me this song during my ungrateful days.
Thank you Jesus
Thank you my Lord
Whatever I am now, it is by your grace
Many are dying, many are perishing
Whatever I am now it is by your grace.
Ingratitude is never the right choice. God is not pleased with discouragement and ingratitude. Immediately He corrects me, I obey and start worshipping, thanking and praising Him and before I know it I get very joyful and my mood transforms. This is faith because faith requires action. When a heart is busy with rejoicing and thanksgiving there will be no landing space for negative thoughts that lead to sadness. This is reality – we are what we think and must guard and protect our hearts diligently against negative thoughts. There is never any good fruit from negative thoughts only sorrow, fear and sadness and those negative thoughts don’t come from the Holy Spirit.
Biblical positive thinking is not about confessing blessings without holiness and waiting upon the Lord. That is for pagans and magicians. Positive thinking is about thinking the same thoughts with God with complete obedience, prayer, praise and worship.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy. – Philippians 1:3
Any heart that is filled with fear must learn to think the Holy Spirit’s thoughts and His thoughts is the word of God. The word of God and prayer builds confidence and faith in God.
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. – Hebrews 11:6
We must pray always in order to have victory. This is true worship and will never disappoint.
We must pray for spiritual maturity and perfection. This is God’s desire because He wants our works to be perfect before Him. We must also pray for grace to be ours in full measure. We must pray for God to defeat all our enemies if we want to have victory over our enemies. There is no man that does not have an enemy. Supplication and petitions are all integral parts of worship. It is the God you meet in time of need that you worship.
Whatever name you call upon for help is the one you worship so if you ignore God when you are being bullied unnecessarily by your enemies, you have reduced your worship because God expects you to call upon Him in times of difficulty especially when you are harassed by physical and spiritual enemies.
The Bible says, “Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfil the lusts of the flesh.” Also, the Bible says that those who are led by the Spirit are the sons of God. This means that the Holy Spirit must control every aspect of our lives.
To walk in the Spirit we must learn to listen to the Holy Spirit and understand dreams, visions and revelations. The Holy Spirit is constantly talking but the problem is that we are not listening or paying attention. Paying attention is part of worship and loving God because it is when we listen to Him and obey Him that we prove our love for Him. If the Holy Spirit has been saying something to us and we ignore Him, we will never have victory. He must be obeyed at all times. He is our captain and head of the Church here on earth so it is a great sin to make Him inactive and irrelevant. Unfortunately, this is what so many people and Churches have done.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. – Romans 8:14
It just seems like He does not matter anymore, so people just go ahead with their own plans and activities without ever bothering to key into the heartbeat of God for the Church. Jesus our example was so in tune with the Holy Spirit that He was even led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted. The truth is that the more we ignore Him, the weaker we are and the weaker the Church becomes. It is not His fault but our own fault. We must learn how to walk in the Spirit and be led by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit once said to me “I want you to be more focussed and organised.” I had so much to do with so little time so I needed to structure my day better. I already had a structure but it was not enough because some tasks I needed to do were left out of my routine. I needed to restructure and reorganise my routine so that no task would be left undone. Anytime I begin to backslide on my routine He would encourage me by saying “daily routine”. Subsequently, I would adjust in order to meet my targets and objectives.
We may not know how vital this is but a look at the life of Jesus shows a very focused, disciplined and organised man. We need to know when to sleep, pray, get up, work and rest. We need to have a disciplined and organised pattern and stick to it. In our quest to carry out God’s plans and purpose for our lives, we must be relentless and persistent in seeking success and victory. We must never be discouraged or depressed. A depressed mind cannot achieve much.
If we want to achieve victory through worship, we must realise that our everyday life matters to God. Do we have idle and lazy moments when we just chat, gossip and go on social media wasting away our lives? If we do, we are not worshippers and victory will shy away from us. Those who did and are doing exploits for the Kingdom of God do not live that way. Jesus and Paul did not live that way. Paul warned us against laziness, idleness and being busybodies. Do we engage in useless arguments, if we do, we are not worshippers. We must master the art of warding off unnecessary and timewasting arguments.
Time is very critical in life and must not be wasted. If someone comes along and tries to engage you in a worthless argument, just state your point politely and excuse yourself politely. We must be as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves, always being smart without being rude. If someone calls you names just ignore him and move on. Jesus always knew how to avoid useless questions and arguments. His enemies and time wasters could never trap Him into wasting away His day. He said; My father is always working and so am I. Is that the attitude of a timewaster? No.
Make up your minds to ignore insults and criticism. Decide not to care too much and you will become more pleasing to the Lord. Caring too much means that you are emotionality fragile and anyone and everyone who desires can easily target you and hurt you badly. Always tell yourself it doesn’t matter and move on. We must develop very tough unbreakable minds if we want to be victorious in life.
My nephew developed this attitude as a 4 year old boy and He was taught by His teachers not to care. When his classmates annoy him he would simply say “it doesn’t matter” and move on. Today he is a very well balanced child and emotionally very strong. However I know other kids his age that have a list of all the offenses and insults that people have thrown at them. They can even publish a book containing all the negative things people have done and said to them. They are emotionally weak and have developed victim mentality. Why must they care too much about people’s attitudes and opinions? They believe everything matters and this is a lie.
Fools show their annoyance at once, but the prudent overlook an insult. – Proverbs 12:16
A lot of negative things coming from other people around us that we can’t control do not matter. We are the ones to choose which taught should affect us and never dwell on other people’s words and actions. The most we can do is cut off from negative people and never let them break us if we must be around them.
The more we care about God and His will, the less we tend to focus on people and their attitudes. A busy man never has time to recount all the wrongs that people have done to him. This is because he is too busy to remember and even if he recalls, the memory will be a very faded thought that does not matter because a busy man’s mind naturally relegates irrelevant thoughts to the background.
The greatest thing that can happen to a man is when a man has perfect love for God.
Love produces spiritual boldness both now and in the day of judgement. Spiritual timidity and fear is caused by imperfect love. Any man who wants to defeat fear must first of all defeat imperfect love which is the root cause of fear. Fear in itself is torment, bondage and punishment.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. – 1 John 4:18
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8:15
This is in line with peace as a fruit of the Holy Spirit. It is only the power of the Holy Spirit and the word of God that can destroy fear. The Holy Spirit dwells in our hearts to purify our hearts and make us live in perfect love. He is the producer of love and love is superior to faith.
The only way that a person will know if he has attained perfect love is by constantly reviewing and renewing his ways – there is no other way. If you heard the voice of the Holy Spirit say to you “give me 3 days of constant praise and worship or pray at midnight for 7 days” and you ignore that voice because the request from the Holy Spirit seams daunting and tedious, you are not walking in the love of God. This means that you could have some level of victory but not complete victory. You have indirectly given the devil an upper hand by that singular act of disobedience.
If you are contradicting the way of worship prescribed by the Holy Spirit through the Bible like “there is no other name in heaven or earth by which men must be saved,” you are not walking in the love of God, rather you are despising God. If the Bible says “God does not live in temples made by human hands” and you pick up an object and say “Jesus lives in this object,” you don’t love God. You can even say “there is power in this object, this object is holy or this is the blood of Jesus.” You subsequently keep the object in your house as protector, deliver and healer.
Honestly I cannot understand why some so called Christians have decided to despise and insult God like that. Christians who profess to love God must read their Bibles and stop listening to fabricated tales. The time for lip service is over and the time for love is now. The only way to show love for God is by being a Bible addict and not just reading the Bible but making sure to follow all the precepts outlined by God. We must also be like the Berean Christian.
These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. – Acts 17:11
The more submissive you are to God’s instructions, the move love you have for God. It is only the man that flees all appearance of evil that has perfect love. The truth is that anytime we commit sin we are destroying the image of God. God wants man to constantly reflect and transmit His purity, love and holiness. Anything short of that is a distortion and a perversion and greatly displeases God. There is no sin that does not matter.
If we truly love God, we will shy away from sins that people generally accept and compromise. It is perfect love that will make us decide not to play down and compromise any sin. We must constantly refuse to harm one another and contradict the Bible on matters of doctrine. We must make it our aim to live in sound doctrine because sound doctrine leads to sound love.
Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict. – Titus 1:9
When we compromise on sound doctrine and just accept any shifting doctrine without diligently searching the Scriptures to determine if the doctrine is true, we don’t love God. The Bible instructs us to test the spirits behind doctrines and the only way we test spirits is by comparing doctrines with Scriptures. Every false doctrine has a spirit behind it so we must be very careful not to ignorantly worship the devil.
For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it! – 1 Corinthians 11:4
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. – Galatians 1:8
Jesus knew the Scriptures inside out and defeated the devil by quoting relevant Scriptures. We as believers must make it our top priority to know the Bible completely. That way, we will be able to practice perfect love and perfect love casts out all fear.
It is possible for a man to be so submissive and obedient that he actually enjoys and delights in doing God’s will. If we carefully examine the lives of Jesus, Paul and David we will observe that they were addicted to God’s will and delighted in doing God’s will. We must stop deceiving ourselves, most of the failure we see in the Church today is because many do not care about God’s will. If we don’t wake up from this unfortunate spiritual slumber and make Jesus our first love, we will keep living pitiful lives. We might be comfortable or even rich but as far as spirituality is concerned we are failures and we cannot manifest the kingdom of God on earth.
I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—
I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. – Revelations 3:15
Manifesting the kingdom of God on earth is why we were born, live, breathe and exist. Anything short of that is failure. We are called to be the salt of the earth and should give flavour to this world the same way that Jesus gave flavour to the earth during His days.
We must rearrange our priorities to fall in line with God’s priorities. Establishing the kingdom of earth must be our top priority. Most Christians are busy chasing shadows instead of substance. Money, money, money and fame, fame, fame. That is all some Christians are capable of thinking of but we cannot serve God and mammon so we need to determine who we want to serve. We must choose and chase after God if we have chosen God. There is no need to say we have chosen God, yet our actions contradict our words and all we can think about is money, fame and the world.
Worship in Church is very vital and helpful. When we go to Church we must pay attention and know that we are in the presence of God even though we don’t see Him. The Church is a place that has been dedicated to the worship of God so we must respect the presence of God.
The Lord spoke to me recently and said “when you are in Church, you must sing, praise me and dance even if you don’t feel like.” After He said this I began to realise that God does not joke with worship – He desires it. It is only when we begin to comprehend how much praise and worship means to God that we begin to see Church as an opportunity to please God and put a smile on His face. Yes, God pays attention to everything we do in Church. He also wants us to fully participate and be involved.
Thanksgiving is a very vital offering in the worship of God. God does not need or want physical sacrifices but He delights in spiritual offerings and sacrifices of thanksgiving. Gratitude is a medicine and healthy food. There is nothing as annoying and repulsive as ingratitude. An ungrateful heart will never see anything good in anyone and in God. All a man with an ungrateful heart does is sit idle in a corner and count and recount his losses. To such a man, there is nothing on earth to be thankful about. To him, everything is shadowy, grey and black including God. His blinded mind is unwilling and incapable of discerning God, and life and God remain a constant mystery to him.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. – James 1:16
He will criticise anything and anyone starting from His partner to his children and friends. Then he will descend on the government and the society. He will even complain about nature and animals. Finally he will begin to attack, judge and criticise God, the only one that has the power to deliver him from himself. The heart of man is very deceptive and the more we listen to and entertain negative thoughts and concepts about God, the more root and branches those thoughts will have in our minds till our minds collapse and faint – Yes, the mind can faint, collapse and die. It can become so hardened and stony that positive thoughts and the word of God get bounced off.
Have you ever had a conversation with a sceptical person? Such a man is never ready and willing to accept points regardless of how positive those points are. He simply enjoys his darkness and is not capable of accepting the thoughts of the Holy Spirit. It is only the power of God that can break and prune such a man and enable him accept the word of God. Nothing else will do.
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bull, which has horns and hooves. – Psalm 69:30
All my life the Lord has been teaching me about gratitude. He has spoken to me several times about thanksgiving and gratitude. He simply hates ingratitude and cherishes gratitude. Any man who wants to obtain victory through worship must delight in thanksgiving. He must make thanksgiving his food and offer it constantly to God. He must also enjoy thanksgiving and not feel burdened or bored with remaining in the presence of God.
Anyone who wants to live in God’s heart must understand the power of praise. Praise is vital and crucial to our worship of God. It is not possible to please God without constant praise. God wants man to acknowledge that He is God and the only way we can acknowledge His great power is by praising, exalting, magnifying, glorifying and uplifting Him. When we do that, an invincible golden bond will bind us to Christ.
Let my mouth be filled with Your praise
and with Your glory all the day. – Psalm 71:8
The opposite of praise is to put God down, look down on Him or belittle Him. We often do this without even being conscious of our attitudes and actions. We do this every time we refuse to spend time praising God. We also do this if we are obsessed about our problems and see only our problems instead of godly solutions. We look down on Him when we refuse to see or think about the great power of God that is available to deliver us or the blood of Jesus that delivered us on the cross. We simply despise the son of God by our actions and insult the Spirit of Grace. We also look down on the blood of Jesus that purified us.
The truth is that we can only overcome by constant praise and gratitude. We must make up our minds to let God be God and let man be man. Man is powerless but God is not powerless so it is a very offensive and an insult to God when we begin to see Him the same way we see men. We must begin to realise that there is nothing too difficult for God and cling to Him for help and favour. We must give God an opportunity to help us and not close our hearts to God. Closing our hearts to God will only harm us and block His mercy from coming upon us. God is great and greatly to be praised and power belongs to Him.
Love and worship is when we have deep affection for God. It is not possible to love God if we see Him as an enemy. The world and the circumstances of life has been programmed in such a way that man finds it difficult to appreciate God or love God. Most of the time man simply pays lip service to God while His heart is bewildered with unanswered questions. If we do not make it our business to rise above our doubts or unanswered questions through the word of God, the love of God will be sniffled in our heart. Perfect vision of who God is creates perfect love for God in our hearts. The more we get to know God and His ways, the more we love Him despite our circumstances.
Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And declare His works with rejoicing. – Psalm 107:22
I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And will call upon the name of the Lord. – Psalm 116:17
Let my prayer be set before You as incense,
The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. – Psalm 141:2
We simply love and adore Him and cling to Him as our hope, benefactor, sustenance and inspiration. Love is very powerful and even stronger than death so instead of dwelling in doubt and unbelief which reduces the love of God we must make it our aim to love God the way that Jesus loved Him – with reckless abandon and complete surrender.
We must literally hand over our hearts to God and trust that He will not break it. Most humans are content and brave enough to hand over their hearts to men and women who simply end up turning against them to crush their hearts in pieces. How can we fall in love with someone we are not married to? That is simply foolishness and must be avoided. The Lord spoke to me and said “friendship, commitment then intimacy”. That is the order of meaningful relationships. The wisest choice you can ever make in terms of relationships is to decide to only fall in love after commitment. It is better to fall in love with God’s will and worship Him until He brings the person who will marry you and not break your heart.
In the same way we must approach God with the same pattern. We must build friendship with Him, commit fully to Him by complete dedication and devotion to His will, please Him and give Him happiness then we will enter the realms of intimacy and oneness with the divine substance. We will enter into Sonship which is the ultimate aim of the Christian life.
Our love of God must be expressed in words and songs. We must constantly tell Him how much we love Him and value Him. We must cherish God with all our hearts because that is why He created us. He did not create us for us to judge him, attack Him, criticise Him and mock Him. Unbelievers think that it is allowed for them to say all sorts of evil things about God and condemn God but that is not wise. A created being simply cannot attack it’s creator.
The love that flows out of our hearts and lips to God is an offering that cannot be quantified. It attracts heaven and beautifies a worshipper if the worshipper keeps away from sin. That is the way to open the gates, doors and windows of heaven.
Love is greater than everything in all of creation especially when that love is directed toward the creator in the manner of worship prescribed by God in the Bible – in holiness, purity, faith, obedience, praise, worship and thanksgiving.
Our love for God should lead to tender feelings of love, fondness and respect towards God. This will translate into admiration, awe, reverence and honour.
In our worship and prayer life, we must not see our problems, rather, we must constantly see the greatness of God and the littleness of our problems. This means that we must constantly enlarge God in our minds and keep shrinking our problems till we do not see them anymore. This involves the power of thought and creative thinking. God did not give us our minds for passivity and negativity, rather He gave us minds that have the ability to conceptualize Him and magnify Him.
With constant uplifting and elevation of God far and beyond any and every negative thing that we can see in this physical world, we reach a level of perfect faith. Faith is part of pleasing God so any man who delights in pleasing God and walking in obedience must not overlook faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. God is certainly not pleased with minds that think the devils thoughts and look down on Him as weak and powerless. God is not pleased with minds that exalt demons and problems above Him. God is almighty and all powerful and any man who really wants to make Him happy must see Him exactly the way He is.
There is no mountain too great or any problem too difficult for God to handle. All we need is to fix our minds and hearts on Jesus and cling to His salvation and power like drowning men. We must never let go or give up until God brings our answers into manifestation.
Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”
Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” – Luke 18:3
God is very much interested in men who will believe in His power and salvation and exalt Him constantly. We must believe that the blood of Jesus has redeemed us and set us free from all evil. We must also praise and worship God at midnight. Additionally, we must believe in the power and ability of the Holy Spirit that manifests the victory and power of Christ. It is by believing that we begin to rejoice in the Lord always and thank God in all circumstances. God is certainly not the cause of evil circumstances but He is greater than them a million times.
Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? – Jeremiah 32:27
By praise, worship, thanksgiving and rejoicing we give the devil a technical knockout and obtain victory. God loves the worshipper and praise addict who lives in complete obedience to the written word of God and voice of the Holy Spirit.
Any man who wants constant victory must live the life of a victorious person by becoming a praise, worship and thanksgiving addict. He must also be filled with rejoicing and celebration because the price that was paid for our salvation was very costly indeed. There is no need to be sorrowful and act like God does not care or is not capable of helping us. That kind of attitude can never lead to victory, rather it leads to sadness and anxiety and God warns us in His word to be anxious for nothing and also commands us to rejoice in the Lord always.
It is not about feelings but about action. Once we cultivate a habit of praising and thanking God even when we don’t feel like it, sadness must lift and melt away and the Spirit of God will take over through that singular act of obedience. Negative spirits and demons can’t stand praise, worship and thanksgiving. They hate, avoid and respect grateful obedient people.
Remember that when Saul was tormented by an evil spirit, it was David’s psalms and music that healed Him. Please do not overlook the power of godly music. It is a very scriptural cure for negativity because when we sing godly songs we are replacing sadness with joy and attracting the power of the Holy Spirit upon us. Godly music also helps us to focus on God’s power and salvation and shrinks our problems because we stop thinking of our problems and the cares of this world.
When a man’s way pleases the Lord, it reflects in his life in form of favour. It is possible that you have an inherited affliction and it was not your way that caused the affliction, however, if your prayer, faith and seeking please the Lord, he will grant your request. Your prayer also forms part of your way and that means that we don’t have to be hopeless because we were born a certain way. God is stronger than nature and all we have to do is ask, knock and seek with faith and God will respond.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! – Matthew 7:7
By this I know that You are well pleased with me,
Because my enemy does not triumph over me. – Psalm 41:11
When a man’s way pleases the Lord. He makes even his enemies at peace with him. – Proverbs 10:7
These Scriptures should be enough to convince us that nothing is ever hopeless in life and that pleasing the Lord should be our sole focus and desire. We should please the Lord because we love Him not because we want Him to defeat our enemies or bless us. We should just love Him because He is worthy to be loved. When we have this mind-set, then every other thing will fall in place and all other things will be added to us. It is impossible to focus on two things at the same time without falling. If we are trying to please the Lord because of blessings and for Him to defeat our enemies, we are simply pleasing ourselves and our motive, intentions and purpose is not pure.
God is looking for purity and pure worshippers not pagans who are constantly panting after blessings and self-satisfaction. Purity of worship is the only thing that can guarantee constant victory over the devil. The opposite of purity is selfishness because all other evils proceed from self-worship, lust and desires.
It is only the mind that can catch a glimpse of the beauty of purity that can pursue purity. Once the devil succeeds in blinding our hearts to the wonders of purity, he has beaten us hands down without any physical assault. We were created for purity because God Himself is pure
Blessed are the pure in heart because they will see God. – Matthew 5:8
Without purity, we will never see the glory of God. Any man who thinks that He can wallow in selfishness and greed and see the glory of God is deluded. He is simply wasting His time because purity must precede power – that is the divine order of things in the spirit world. Seeking power without purity and holiness will only lead to false demonic power so we must be very careful in our ways.
Covetousness, greed and quest for fame and power will only attract negative power and doctrines. We must be sincere and truthful to ourselves. We must eat the bread of purity and truth and this delicious bread is the word of God.
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. – 1 Corinthians 5:8
When a man desires to please the Lord, He will never go wrong and the glory of God and divine visitations will be his companion. He will not even pray for divine visitations and yet he will find himself constantly being visited by the Lord. Why? This is because his way is pleasing to the Lord just as Jesus was very pleasing to God.
Men Pleasers Are Not God Pleasers
There is a difference between loving your neighbour and being a man pleaser. We should love one another tenderly and sincerely, that is not being a man pleaser. Being a man pleaser is when we do things just to get reward or praise from men.
Not with eye service, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord. – Ephesians 6:6
When we do things in order to conform to the expected mind-set of society and to gain more respect and admiration from men, we become men pleasers being controlled and conformed to the standards of men and this world.
Pleasing men should never be our motive in any decision and action we take rather, pleasing God should be the motive, objective and purpose. When we do that, we become God pleasers and men after God’s heart.
The ultimate aim of a Christian is to be a God pleaser. It is only when we become God pleasers that we become real worshippers and subsequently obtain victory through worship.
