He Makes Us Remember

The Spirit Of The Lord

8. He Makes Us Remember

The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you. John 14:26

The Holy Spirit makes us remember the word of God. The worst thing that can happen to anyone is to forget the word of God. Is it possible for a human being to forget food or water? Is it wise to forget that thing that keeps you alive? When we forget the word of God, we fall into mistakes and sins. We also loose faith, love, and hope. It is the word of God that builds us up and makes us whole.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

We Have To Keep Looking

If we keep looking into the perfect law – the word of God, He will help us retain and not forget the word. However, we need to keep looking so that He can help us. If we never read our Bibles, it becomes harder to retain and easier to forget the word of God

But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it–not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it–they will be blessed in what they do. James 1:25

It is the Holy Spirit that plants those thoughts in our minds that tell us to pick up the Bible and read. The Holy Spirit has spoken so many scriptures to me in times that I needed comfort and encouragement. I will mention two scriptures from the many scriptures that He has spoken to me.

Some years back, I was in an Air plane, and we had a long one hour queue and traffic waiting to take off from LaGuardia to Atlanta. I was drifting in and out of sleep, terribly bored by the long queue, as planes were taking off every one and half minute. As we patiently waited for our turn to take off, the Holy Spirit said to me, ‘He who started a good work in you will complete it.’ He also said some other time, ‘I will never leave you or forsake you.’

He quotes and refreshes relevant and right scriptures into our minds for maximum impact according to our situation and circumstance. If you are always sad, He will tell you to be grateful and rejoice in the Lord always. If your are always restless and busy without time for Him, He will tell you to be still and know that He is God.

Anytime a holy inspiration or thought enters our mind, it is by grace. We need to respond to those holy nudges and not ignore His voice. If we ignore those promptings that we have that encourage us to fellowship with the Holy Spirit and read the Bible, after a while, our hearts will deaden and harden up and we won’t hear Him often or we might even stop hearing Him. Not because He is not talking but because we have hardened and deadened our hearts. But He never leaves us or forsakes us.

After a while, He comes back to remind us of His word again. He keeps working in us and never gives up on His beloved children. He can also use judgement to make us reverse from dead paths to hear His voice. He will quote scriptures into our hearts and remind us of things He told us in the past.

Praise God, we have a faithful helper who reminds us of God’s words.
