Walking In The Spirit

This means living your life in line with the thoughts and words of the Holy Spirit.

It is very vital for us to understand that without Christ we will not be able to walk in the Spirit. He is the one that produces good fruits by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Your lives will be filled with the truly good qualities which only Jesus Christ can produce, for the glory and praise of God. – Philippians 1:11

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. – John 15:5

Christ is the vine and we are the branches, therefore He is the source of any good fruit we can ever bear. He is also the sower in the parable of the sower. We must constantly make sure that our hearts are fertile grounds for the written and spoken word because it is only a good ground that can bear fruits.

But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. – Matthew 13:8

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. – Galatians 5:22

A good soil is the heart that constantly seeks the will of God by finding out what pleases God and wholeheartedly strives to please God. It is the heart that has crucified selfish human thoughts, desires and ambitions. A good heart can receive the word of God and bear fruit because the cares of this world no longer has the power to crush the word of God in his heart. Christ refers to the cares of this world as weeds that will choke the word of God.

We cannot afford to be bothered about too many things like Martha in the gospel. The word of God is all that matters and Mary the sister of Martha chose wisely.

We walk in the Spirit by walking in complete obedience to the word of God and voice of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the source of both the spoken and written word of God and He is also Lord.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.– 2 Corinthians 3:17

We must also pray for ability to do the will of God because God is able to make us willing and able to do His will. God knows how to break us and make us willing to do His will. Walking in the Spirit is the only way we can be victorious as Christians and grow to Christian maturity.
