Message To The Church At Pergamum – Keys To Victory.
Hello and welcome to today’s Bible study. Today, we continue with the message of Jesus Christ to the seven churches in Asia. Our focus today is on the church in Pergamum.
The scripture says:
“And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of Him who has the sharp two-edged sword. I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. Yet you hold fast to My name and did not deny My faith…” — Revelation 2:12–13
Today we are going to look at what it means spiritually to live “where Satan dwells,” how believers can unknowingly place themselves in spiritually polluted environments, and the response God expects from us. We are also going to look at how believers can remain victorious through the Holy Spirit.
Understanding the Temple of the Holy Spirit
The Bible teaches that believers are temples of the Holy Spirit. God dwells within His people through His Spirit. However, there is a difference between having the Holy Spirit and being filled with the manifest presence of God.
Many believers have the Holy Spirit living within them, but they are not consistently filled with the glory and presence of God. God commands His children to be filled with the Spirit because the level of God’s presence operating in your life affects the level of spiritual victory you experience.
When a believer spends time in worship, prayer, obedience, and fellowship with God, the presence of God begins to overflow into their environment. Even your home can become saturated with the presence of God.
We see this in the life of Paul. The presence of God upon him was so strong that handkerchiefs and garments connected to him became points of healing for others.
In the same way, when believers gather together in worship, the manifest presence of God can descend powerfully among them.
A Vision About the Presence of God
I remember a vision the Lord once showed me. I saw a church congregation worshipping, and I saw the Lord seated upon a throne near the pulpit. Then the Holy Spirit spoke and said that the Lord desires to rise and move among His people.
As worship continued, I saw the Lord stand up and begin walking through the congregation, touching people and ministering to them.
The Lord was showing me that miracles, breakthroughs, healings, and visitations happen when His manifest presence begins to move among His people.
Where Satan Dwells
Now let us return to the scripture in Revelation where Jesus said:
“I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is.”
Spiritually, Satan establishes influence through sin, idolatry, rebellion, darkness, and demonic activity. The enemy works through anything that opposes the holiness and presence of God.
Sin brings spiritual death and opens doors to darkness. The Bible teaches that the wages of sin is death. From the Garden of Eden, humanity entered into corruption through disobedience. The world is polluted by sin, and many of the sufferings in this world are connected to that fallen condition.
The Danger of Spiritual Pollution
The Bible repeatedly warns believers to separate themselves from idolatry and spiritual uncleanness. This does not mean believers should fear demons or live in terror. Jesus Christ has authority over all powers of darkness.
However, believers must understand spiritual wisdom and discernment. Not every environment is spiritually healthy. Not every close relationship is spiritually safe.
The Bible says:
“What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God.” — 2 Corinthians 6:16
God does not want His people unequally yoked with spiritual darkness.
Some believers unknowingly expose themselves to spiritual oppression by maintaining close intimate fellowship with spiritually polluted influences. This is why believers must be led by the Holy Spirit.
Being Led by the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is our Helper, Counselor, Guide, and Protector. Without the leading of the Holy Spirit, believers can walk into harmful situations without discernment.
The Holy Spirit warns, guides, convicts, and protects.
Many believers know the written Word of God but have not learned how to hear and follow the voice of the Holy Spirit daily. But true victory requires both the written Word of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Without spiritual discernment, believers may remain in polluted environments that negatively affect their spiritual lives.
Warning Against Idolatry
The Bible strongly warns against idolatry. Idolatry is not only bowing before physical statues. Anything that replaces God, competes with God, or draws a person away from complete dependence on Him becomes an idol.
God desires His people to seek Him directly and remain fully devoted to Him. Believers must avoid every form of spiritual compromise and anything connected to darkness.
The focus should never be fear of demons. The focus should always be pleasing God, walking in holiness, staying filled with the Holy Spirit, and remaining spiritually discerning.
Victory Through the Presence of God
The answer is not fear. The answer is the presence of God.
When believers remain filled with the Holy Spirit, spend time in prayer, worship, obedience, and fellowship with God, they walk in spiritual strength and victory.
God wants His people to overcome. He wants believers to walk in discernment, purity, wisdom, and spiritual maturity.
The more you stay close to God, the more sensitive you become to His leading.
Final Encouragement
If you find yourself in a spiritually difficult or unhealthy environment, seek God sincerely for wisdom and direction.
The Holy Spirit will reveal the cause, the effect, the solution, and the response required.
God is faithful to guide His children.
Remain focused on God, not on fear.
Keep your heart pure before Him.
Stay filled with the Holy Spirit.
Stay grounded in the Word of God.
Walk in obedience and spiritual discernment.
And the Lord will preserve, protect, strengthen, and guide you.
Prayer
I pray that the Lord opens your spiritual eyes and gives you discernment. May He reveal every hidden thing that is grieving the Holy Spirit in your life.
May the Lord separate you from every harmful influence and lead you into truth, holiness, wisdom, and victory.
May the presence of God fill your life, your home, and your spirit.
May the Lord strengthen you, protect you, and establish you in His peace.
May His grace overshadow you continually.
God bless you and have a blessed day.
