Filled With Wisdom

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:9 – 1:10 ESV)

Being filled with the knowledge of God’s will is very vital and essential to our Christian growth and walk with God. Knowledge, spiritual wisdom and understanding precede the ability to please God.

We cannot bear complete fruit without having complete or thorough knowledge of the word of God – discerning between good and evil. Lack of knowledge can actually turn things upside down in our minds and we will be displeasing God, thinking that we are being holy and righteousness

Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop–a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Matthew 13:8

Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. acts 18:24

For instance, the Bible clearly tells us not to be unequally yoked with idol worshippers but Christians ignore this, and try to prove that they know more than God.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

The Bible tells us not to eat with believers who live like unbelievers but we wine and dine with unbelieving believers.

But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people. 1 Corinthians 5:11

I never even knew the full meaning of this Scripture until the Lord spoke to me about people in my life that had unclean aura and garments, He explained to me that being intimate with idol worshipers or so called believers that are idol worshippers, stain our inner garments,, so it is actually for our own protection.

The Bible tells us not to forsake the gathering of believers but some of us try to prove that we know more than God. They rationalize not going to Church often. There is nothing to rationalize – if you are not sick, or have a pressing emergency, go to Church. That is after the coronavirus. Unfortunately, most Churches cannot really open normally like before.

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrew 10:25

The summary is that we can think that we know the word of God, and are being holy, yet we disobey very clear instructions in the Bible because we are interpreting the Bible with our own minds without the Holy Spirit. So we need our Holy teacher – the Holy Spirit, everyday to teach us , lead us and guide us. He is the spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

So, I pray that we may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will, in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of Him, everyday. Amen.

  • What if it is you brother or sister that is the unbelieving believer? How do you stop eating or associating with him or her in accordance to the scriptures? Or are there deeper meaning than physical associations? I don’t know If I phrased my question right

You phrased your question right. I understand. The Bible is usually specific, and here the Bible was not talking about family. It is not talking about circumstances, activities and events beyond our control. It is talking about activities that we can clearly control. Remember that Paul advised believers not to divorce an unbelieving spouse.

If the Scripture above implied that you should not eat with your unbelieving family member, then you cannot even live in the same house with an unbelieving spouse or child. So, we should pray for our family members.

People we have no obligation to that claim to be believers and clearly oppose Christ in their actions, we must avoid in terms of intimacy. We can know them but not be intimate with them. The truth is that everyone cannot be our friend and we must not be intimate with everyone. Jesus was not intimate with everyone. He had His inner circle and His inner inner circle from the twelve.

The only unclean person that He was intimate with, betrayed Him and took money and handed Him over to those that killed Him.
