A Gentle And Quiet Spirit
But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. (1 Peter 3:4 ESV)
This Scripture is enlightening us about what true beauty really is. A lot of people are obsessed with their bodies and their outward appearance but pay little attention to the inner man. True beauty is the beauty of character and personality that comes from the inner man.
The beauty of God is His Character. It comes from His personality and shines light to the world. God’s character is spotless without flaw because He is perfect in goodness, mercy and kindness. He is love and selfless sacrificial love is beautiful.
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
A good, kind, humble, polite and gentle person is a beautiful person regardless of his or her outward appearance. Men look at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. If you have ever witnessed ugliness, wickedness and evil from a very handsome or pretty person you will truly understand that physical beauty is deceptive if it is not accompanied by good character. It is nothing without love, gentleness, humility and kindness.
May we all put on the true beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit in Jesus name.

Amen 🙏🏿. As I read this it reminded me of a book I’ve been reading for a few months by Stormie Omartian “Lead Me, Holy Spirit”. A few days ago, I learned about led to be transformed in our character. This constant theme about our character being built and transformed into the image of Christ has been repetitive this week. God is Good. If you haven’t read that book, I will recommend that book to you. She has many more books but this is my first book I’m reading by her. I did see that you also have books. Hello! I have read your post for some time and would like to thank you for your blog. This post inspired me to give some thought. If we had two human beings walking pass us on the road would we treat them different according how they appear? Many would say no but many would also lie. This is a test we can take every day. Does it really matter if we saw a homeless person asking for some money or if a wealthy looking person dropped something. Who would we help most likely? Who would we think deserves our intention? We judge so easily. I wish we could see everyone as equal and we would give a hand and love them as sisters or brothers.
Thank you so much for the beautiful and encouraging words. God Himself is against bias of every kind. Man naturally looks at outward appearance but God looks at the heart. The challenge now is for believers to think differently from the natural man or flesh.
We are called to live in the Spirit and love everyone regardless of status, race, education, physical beauty etc. I also pray that we see everyone with the eyes of love and see everyone as equals.
For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts. (James 2:2 – 2:4 ESV)
