My Tomorrow

I was sick

You judged me

I lost my job

You judged

I lost my pregnancy

You judged me

Now that I am dying

You stand by my bedside

A constant judge.

Your eyes and words

Scream out at me, “ it’s your fault! It’s all your fault

That you are at the point of death!”

When did you change?

From lover and husband to judge

Where is the husband

That I married?

You have completely lost

Every form of empathy

For me.

I am speechless

Hurt and dumbfounded.

I know that you love me

And as I pass through

The valley of the shadow

Of death

You are

My Father, husband, lover,

Friend, brother, comforter

Advocate, intercessor

And deliverer.

Love gives me

The strength

To carry on

I do not know

My tomorrow

But surely

My tomorrow

Is in your hands

I am safe

In your hands

Be kind to people

Especially those

Closest to you

When they need you

The most

In their moment

Of weakness and pain,

Are called to be

Their friend

Not their judge.

For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.
